7 ladies & a girl in Iceland: Snaefellnes Peninsula – West Iceland

When: May 27, 2017. Where: Gerðuberg Cliffs, Stykkisholmor, Bjarnarhöfn, Kirjufell

Weather: Cloudy  Temperature: 8°C  Feels like: 5°C when cloudy & 8°C when clear skies

Drive Route: Borganes>Gerduberg Cliffs>Stykkisholmor>Bjarnarhogn>Kirkufell

Borganes is a nice little town, we woke up & went for a short run around the coast. It sure was cold though.

After our run & our breakfast, we are off to the next destination – Stykkisholmor. But not before we make a stop at Geira Bakery to get some bread (it is a famous bakery at Borganes) – and yes – the bakery definitely live up to its reputation! The supermarkets are only open at 10am on Sunday – but luckily Geira is opened!

On our way – we made a pit stop to Gerduberg Cliffs

After seeing so many basalt columns cliffs in Iceland, I must say, we are not that impress.

So after a really short stop / picture taking – we are off to Stykkisholmor.

Stykkisholmor (Súgandiseyjarviti)

Stykkisholmur is beautifully-situated on the northern side of the Snaefellsnes peninsula. With beautiful and well-preserved old houses in the town centre. The orange colored lighthouse (Súgandiseyjarviti) at the edge of the bay is a famous viewing spot & of course picture spot. It was almost impossible for us to get a decent picture without many other tourists (students from America in our case). It was super windy & it was also drizzling but we made the climb up there anyhow.

After the climb, we were in search of lunch & really a place to keep us warm! We found one that’s right off the bay.  Decor were nice & the food too! So we are pleasantly surprised.

We spent a good hour or so & after we are all warmed up – we are off to our next stop – the Bjarnarhöfn Shark Museum.

Bjarnarhöfn Shark Museum

It is run by a family that used to hunt for sharks. A video showing how the shark meats are treated & the owner’s son/grandson gave us a personal explanation on the questions that we may asked.

A quaint little place with a site for shark meat tanning (treatment). The taste is really not something for the faint hearted. One can spend about 1-2 hours there.

At the back of the museum there are lots of old farming equipments & it was surprisingly sunny which makes everyone really happy!

Then our next stop is Kirkjufell – we wanted to reach  our place of stay early as we got ourselves a very cabin with a hot tub which is at the foot of the Kirkjufell!

cabin kirkjufell

The cabin’s location did not disappoint us at all! We totally loved it. The whole area only have 2 cabins out for rent & we rented via Air B&B. Totally recommend this place.

The Halsabol Summerhouses stands by the roots of mt Kirkjufell.

While we were enjoying the hot tub & enjoying the views of Kirkjufell, our group’s Chef cooked up some really delicious dinner for us! Yes I am very grateful !
